Competition wrapped up today at Toronto’s Pan Am Centre with Swimming Canada nominating 22 Para Swimmers to the Paralympic Games and 27 swimmers to the Olympic Games in Rio this summer. Swimmers were also named to the Junior Pan Pacific Championships in Maui, Hawaii August 18-28 and to the 2016 FINA World Short Course Swimming Championships taking place in Windsor, ON in December.
19 of Nova Scotia’s top swimmers competed in the six-day event along with approximately 700 other swimmers from across Canada and other top swimming federations, including USA Swimming National team members.
Sackville’s Danial Murphy set three Para Swimming Canadian Records over the six days in the S5 sport class in the following events: 200m Freestyle (3:01.27), 50m Butterfly (47.87), 50m Backstroke (52.86).
Halifax’s Jade Hannah set a new Nova Scotia long course Provincial Record in both the 13-14 and Open age categories in the 100m Butterfly with a time of 1:00.69 and teammate Sarah Polley set the 15-17 age category in the 100m Freestyle with a 57.54.
