Congratulations to the Halifax Chronos Masters Swim Club who won the 2019 Nova Scotia Provincial Masters Championships in Memory of John Farley! Presenting the banner was John’s daughter, Gyneth, who joined us from Ottawa.
Thanks to the Dartmouth Whalers Masters Swim Team who hosted the event today at the Zatzman Sportsplex and thanks to all of the Officials and volunteers for a great day!
Dr. John Farley passed away November 10, 2015 at the age of 79. John joined Dalhousie’s Biology Department as an Assistant Professor in 1964.
In 1995 John took early retirement to concentrate on writing and on Masters swimming (but continued to teach). John held provincial, national and international Masters Swim records in various age ranges. When in the 70-74 age group and participating in the National swim meet, John set provincial records in the 100 and 200m freestyle, the 50 and 100m breaststroke and the 100 and 200m individual medley. John was a member of the Halifax Veliger’s Masters Swim Club through the 1990’s and early 2000’s and then swam as an independent Masters Swimmer.
He is survived by his loving family, wife Grace, children Gael, Gyneth, James and Gilmour and his five grandchildren, and his colleagues and friends in Halifax, Canada and the history of science community worldwide. Our community has lost a great friend, colleague and inspiration.
