Sackville’s Danial Murphy Nominated to Canada’s Paralympic Swim Team

Today Danial Murphy of the Sackville Waves Aquatic Team was nominated by Swimming Canada to Team Canada for the Rio Paralympic Games in September.
Swimming Canada nominated 27-year-old Murphy to the team today based on his performances in April at the 2016 Canadian Olympic and Para-Swimming Trials in Toronto, Ontario. Danial holds National PARA Records in the men’s S5 50m Freestyle, 100m Freestyle, 200m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke, and 50m Butterfly. He has been ranked in the top ten in the world for the last two-seasons in the S5 200m Freestyle.

“Danial has consistently stayed motivated to work towards achieving a spot on the 2016 Paralympic Games Team,” says Danial’s personal Coach, Kevin Ross. Danial has been a role-model for swimmers in Nova Scotia for a number of years, he has inspired not only Para Swimmers, but Able-Bodied swimmers.

The Paralympic Games are set for Sept. 7 to 18, 2016, with the swimming events scheduled to take place from Sept. 8 to 17. Danial will be competing in the S5 100m Freestyle, 200m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly in Rio.
