GOLDEN FLIPPER CHALLENGE NOVEMBER RESULTS
Swim NS is excited to announce that we have accepted Swim BC’s challenge in the 200m Butterfly this season – we will be participating in the 2022-2023 Golden Flipper Challenge!!
The Swim BC Thompson - Okanagan Region have partnered with us to challenge each other in the 200 Butterfly. The challenge has been designed to develop spirit, story, and a rallying cry to inspire and motivate the swimmers, coaches, and their clubs. The regions will work collaboratively to share and compete in this friendly rivalry.
This region includes 6 clubs of the BC Interior, including Shuswap, Kamloops, Kelowna, Penticton, Summerland, and Vernon.
Results will be published and shared monthly, starting in a couple of weeks. Results will simply be pulled from results from sanctioned competitions.
An information sheet is available that outlines the age groups and scoring.

2022 Candy Cane Invitational Meet Details
In preparation for the Candy Cane Invitational Swim Meet this weekend, please take note of the following information:
Session Reports are now available – Sunday prelims have NOT been adjusted to reflect 2 per lane in the 800 Free in the attached version

Split Warm-Ups are taking place as noted in the meet package:

FACILITY RULES:
Any food that is brought onto the pool deck must stay in the swimmer's designated team area. We also ask swimmers to not bring any glass containers/bottles onto the pool deck.
No outdoor footwear is permitted on deck. Shoes must be taken off prior to entering the locker rooms or walking onto the pool deck. It is important to everyone's health and safety to keep the pool deck as clean as possible.
Lastly, prior to each warm up period, swimmers must take a cleansing shower. This is to ensure that the water and air quality remain as healthy as possible.
The lifeguards will be enforcing these rules, but we would like to request assistance from officials and coaches. With your assistance we can provide a safe, clean swimming environment for the competitors, coaches, and volunteers.

2022 Scotia Sprints Regional League Meet Details
This weekend will kick off the Scotia Sprints League Meets in North, South & Central Regions! This is an exciting new initiative from Swim NS for our younger swimmers. Most of the events are 25m races with a few races at 100m (eg the individual medley) so the meet should not take long. It is a good opportunity to gain experience and achieve your volunteer points.
Host clubs are still looking for a few more timers and senior officials – if you or anyone on your team is interested/available, please reach out to the appropriate person for each host club:
North, Pictou Fisheries Pool (PCM host)- Saturday November 26th 12:30pm for 1:00pm start (starter, stroke/turn & CT needed)

Top Nova Scotia Swimmers to Wrapped up Competition today at the Canadian Leg of FINA’s Swimming World Cup
Five of Nova Scotia’s top swimmers wrapped up competition today, Sunday during the second leg of the 2022 Fina Swimming World Cup in Toronto, ON.
Halifax’s Julie Nolan-McCarthy set a new Nova Scotia Provincial Record in the women’s 15-17 100m Breaststroke with a time of 1:10.25, with a 19th place finish. Julie also set the inaugural 15-17 and Senior Women’s 100m Individual Medley Provincial Record with a time of 1:05.75.

Canada hosted the three-day event at Toronto’s Pan Am Centre in its first FINA Swimming World Cup event in more than 20 years. Over 450 athletes from 40 countries competed for an overall series prize pool of $224,000.00USD; American Katie Ledeky set a World Record in the women’s 1500m Freestyle during the competition, which saw many world-class swimmers.
The world’s top swimmers competed in the first leg last weekend in Berlin and will compete next weekend (November 3-5) in the third and final leg in Indianapolis, USA.

Mass Officials Clinic - November 12th, 2022
Swim Nova Scotia will be hosting a Mass Officials Clinic on Saturday November 12th, 2022. Clinics will take place at the Sport NS Building at 5516 Spring Garden Road, Halifax and some will be offered virtually in addition to being offered in-person.
A draft schedule is available here. If interested in signing up for any course, please send your name and which Club you are from to Kelley by Wednesday November 9th. Kelley will send back an email confirmation and a link to download the necessary materials along with the Zoom meeting links where necessary.
Please note that you need to be a registered official to sign up for these courses. If you have not registered as an official yet this swim season please fill out the 2022-2023 registration forms and provide to your Clubs Chair of Officials to activate your officials account for this swim season.
There are no costs associated with any of the clinics.

IMPORTANT FACILITY ACCESS & ON DECK INFORMATION
Swimmers, Coaches & Officials must enter Dalplex through the main entrance (turnstiles) – Please give full name to the front desk staff (and let them know if you are a swimmer/coach/official). They will check your name off the entry list submitted by Swim NS. NOTE: All Dal Tigers and Halifax Trojan Swimmers do not need to do this, please use your access cards to enter the building as you normally would
The building will open at 7:30am for Swimmers, Coaches & Officials on Sunday for the Sprint Meet
Deck access will only be available to Coaches, Swimmers and Officials that are on the entry lists for the meet – swimmers & coaches that are not entered in the meet will not be allowed on deck
Spectator facility access will be through the ‘trap’ door at the far end of the building (black door, down the stairs to the right of the loading bay) where they entered last year
The building (trap door) will open at 8:00am for Spectators on Sunday for the Sprint Meet
Spectator seating is available in the upper bleachers of the deep end only
Swimmer seating is available in any area of the bleachers in the lower section of the deep end, the entire shallow end and the far side of the pool
2022 Canada Games Swimmers are off the Blocks
27 swimmers from across Nova Scotia have been selected to represent Team Nova Scotia at the 2022 Canada Summer Games in St. Catharine’s, ON during the first week of competition.
Swimmers will be competing August 7-11th at the Eleanor Misner Swimming Pool and the Open Water Event will take place on August 12th at the Welland Welland International Flatwater Centre.
The team is made up of 12 female and 11 males along with 2 female and 2 male Canadian Special Olympic swimmers from across Nova Scotia.
Our selection process took throughout this spring based on the highest ranked swimmers that met the eligibility requirements.

Top NS Swimmers Ready to Dive Into the 2022 Canadian Junior & Senior National Championships
Montreal (QC)- Nine of Nova Scotia’s top swimmers begin competing today at the 2022 Canadian Junior and Senior Championships in Montreal, QC. The competition takes place July 25 – August 1, 2022.

2022 Ken Dunn NS Provincial Championships
Swim Nova Scotia is pleased to announce the results from the 2022 Ken Dunn Nova Scotia Provincial Swimming Championships in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Swim Scotia co-hosted the event with the Halifax Trojan Aquatic Club at Dalplex Pool July 9-12. Approximately 250 swimmers from Nova Scotia, Ontario & Newfoundland were in attendance.

FACILITY ACCESS:
All teams must enter/exit Dalplex through the main doors and check in with the facility staff (Dal & HTAC swimmers, please use your access cards). Access to the main lockers rooms will be available for all swimmers, coaches may enter through the back stairwell
Because of the ongoing bleacher replacement, deck seating will be limited (but available for swimmers/coaches). We ask teams to respect the Seating Diagram – meet management reserves the right to make modifications if necessary.
SPECTATOR INFORMATION:
There will be no on-site spectator access due to the ongoing bleacher replacement
PARKING:
Parking passes are required to park in the Dalplex Parking lot on Monday & Tuesday only. Each Club will receive 1 parking pass for their Coach; this can be picked up from Bette in the computer room on the weekend. Volunteer timers/officials will receive them from Kelley
TECHNICAL:
Warm-Ups:
There will be no split warm-ups; however lanes 7 & 8 will be designated for Para Swimmers, Special Olympic Swimmers and 12 & Under Swimmers for the first 30 minutes of each warm-up period
Positive Check-In: Will be required for the 800/1500m Freestyle (by 8:30am on Saturday for Saturday’s distance and 8:30am Tuesday for Tuesday’s distance)
Distance Events: Reminder that the 400 IM, and all 400/800/1500 Free will swim fastest to slowest, alternating gender. These events are planned to swim as 1 per lane, however meet management reserves the right to swim 2 per lane in the freestyle events (pending positive check-in)
Combined Events: Coaches will be notified if any individual or relay events will be combined
PARA & Special Olympic Events: These will be added into finals – I will work with the Head Coaches of Para & Special Olympic Swimmers to confirm their events.
AWARDS:
Medals will be presented throughout finals for 1-3rd place in each event on the diving platform following each race. Swimmers are reminded to wear a shirt for their presentation, if they can’t make it, please send another swimmer that can pick up their award on their behalf
OTHER:
Hospitality: HTAC will be providing hospitality in the classroom off the deck in the shallow end for all Coaches and Officials.
Vendors: Jolyn Aquatic Apparel and Evolution Athletic Gear will be on site (located outdoors on the grassy area near the front doors) through the meet

Thanks to the Halifax Trojan Aquatic Club for Co-Hosting the 2022 AA Spring Champs this weekend – just over 200 swimmers from across Nova Scotia and PEI participated with some terrific swims!

Assignment of Meet Officials as of June 2nd
Warm-ups for all 6 sessions are scheduled for 45 minutes only, all 16 lanes will be available
The shallow end will be available during the meet for continuous warm-up/down
800/1500 Free will swim 1 per lane
Awards will be presented immediately after each final on the diving platform
Masks are mandatory throughout Dalplex
Swimmers, Coaches & Officials must enter Dalplex through the front doors and check-in with Dalplex Staff (HTAC & DAL swimmers may use their access cards) and enter through the turnstiles
Spectators must enter through the trap door (see attached - entrance map) – they can’t enter through the front doors
Spectators will have limited space in the upper bleachers in the deep end

We ask that you do not return to the pool deck for finals until after 4:30pm when the facility staff has completed pulling bulkhead.

Meet details for the upcoming AA & AAA Meets this weekend are now available.
AA #2 SCM (hosted by CBD) Saturday May 7 & Sunday May 8th at the Kiwanis Pool in Sydney:
Masks are mandatory in all common areas of the Kiwanis Pool/Building(i.e. lobby, changerooms, spectator area, etc). They are optional for swimmers/coaches/officials while on the pool deck. Please be sure anyone leaving the pool deck is wearing their mask
Spectators are welcome to watch from the designated spectator area in the upper viewing gallery
